CASE STUDY: EAST MEETS WEST - HARRISON HOME SYSTEMS

Case Study

This family-focused project was aimed at delivering a “luxurious respite” for the multi-national business owners and their family to use as a second home. Simple control from anywhere, entertainment for the whole family and beautiful integration that embraces the owner’s Japanese themed décor were requirements that were carefully considered by Harrison Home Systems resulting in this award-winning design.

A standout feature of this 13,000²ft second home is the custom scenes that were created in close collaboration with the clients. Specific scenes can be triggered by the arming/disarming of the alarm system so the owners can leave the home unoccupied for long periods while keeping the home secure and energy-efficient. Scenes are also responsible for controlling the 18 zones of distributed audio, 14 video zones, 110 motorised shades, a dedicated home theatre, business-grade video conferencing and eight climate control zones automatically for ultimate convenience. A child-friendly user interface delivered through 61 in-wall keypads and touchscreen displays allows all aspects of the home to be controlled by all members of the family without any advanced technical knowledge.

Hidden beneath the fusion of Eastern and Western design in the master suite is a host of smart home technology which delivers media, privacy, and comfort to the space.

You wouldn’t know it, but there are six displays discreetly implemented throughout the suite which is combined with five audio zones, 22 motorised roller shades, along with automated climate and lighting control to create a secluded and tranquil area of the home that the owners could relax in after entertaining.

Maintaining unobstructed views out of the large bedroom windows was a priority as the windows span the entire length of the suite, but the clients also wanted the opportunity to enjoy watching TV from the bed. By taking advantage of unused ceiling space Harrison Home Systems were able to integrate a 65” display to enable the owner to comfortably watch TV from the bed without obstructing any of the large windows.

Our motorised Ceiling Hinge (CHR) was the optimal solution as it could be hidden within the ‘cloud’ that is positioned directly above the bed. This enables the TV to be revealed on command using the smart home control system. Removing the permanence of a fixed display from the room's sleeping area helps maintain the openness of the suite while saving valuable floor space. Completing this hidden display is a customised trim panel that matches the surrounding ceiling finish so that it blends seamlessly into the ceiling when the display isn’t in use.

This ceiling mounted system is flanked by a traditionally mounted display in the lounge and a custom-made floating vanity display that is countersunk to blend seamlessly into the surrounding cabinetry. Additional displays in the bathroom, closet and morning bar offer the owner media continuity between separate areas of the suite so they can continue watching TV from anywhere in the space without interruption.

The CHR interfaces with the smart home control system to allow the master suite sheer shades to close automatically when the lift is open to reduce glare and reflections. These sheer blinds help to create a private space that can still benefit from natural light during the day. These are accompanied by room darkening shades for full privacy as ambient light levels drop. When the shades are open, they are fully concealed inside pockets built into the window frame, so they disappear from view when they are open.
